A new underwater sculpture by a famous artist

A new sculpture by artist Jason DeCaires Taylor was presented. Set on Davies Reef, on the Great Barrier Reef.

“Ocean Siren” — modeled after a young Wulgurukaba girl — changes color to reflect the water temperatures.

It is a sculpture called “Ocean Siren”, and it is interesting that it measures the temperature of the sea in real-time. By changing the color, ocean siren shows what the temperature is below the surface. The sculpture rises more than three meters above the surface. And the colors, according to the temperature of the sea, change in the spectrum from dark blue to dark red.

The statue was the first one to be placed in the Museum of Underwater Art in Queensland in late 2019. It is the only one visible above the water. Other parts have been installed underwater. So far only three pieces have been installed because work has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation.
